FITNESS AND THE FIVE HARD TRUTHS OF STAYING ON TRACK

Staying on track and improving your fitness and health is hard. There is no getting around that.

Sometimes exercise is just hard, but many times it goes beyond that.

Here are 5 hard truths about staying on track with fitness:

1) Life is busy and it will always be in the way. Those that can shift their focuses and priorities to prioritize their health will win in the long game. We can’t always go 100 mph but we should never be going 0.

2) Progress is PAINFULLY slow. It’s almost always an uphill climb. I like the paper towel analogy – whether you’re trying to build, improve performance or trying to drop weight – every couple of weeks is like adding or removing a paper towel from the roll. You can’t really see a difference in the size of the roll for quite a while.

3) Traditional diet culture messages are toxic. Social media “fitness” messages are everywhere and they can poison your progress and mindset.

4) You can’t do everything at once. Training requires prioritizing efforts. Pick your goals and work on them for a long time before switching it up.

5) Improvement and mastery requires A LOT of repetition. Those that can tolerate some monotonous moments will make a lot more progress than the ones hoping from fad to fad….I have been working out for 20+ years now…know how many RDLs I have done?!

ONE bright side to the 5 hard truths…

You are capable of way more than you think! You are in control of a lot more than you think! It just takes some practice and time to realize this. The faster we are able to kick traditional diet culture nonsense out of our head and focus our efforts on improving ourselves and building ourselves – the easier it all becomes.
